During Hitler's regime there was a program called Lebensborn.
"Racially pure" women slept with SS officers in order to have Aryan children.
An estimated 20,000 children were born during the 12 years.
Lebensborn e.V. (literally: "Fount of Life") was an SS-initiated, state-supported, registered association in Nazi Germany that sought to increase the number of "racially pure" and "healthy" Aryans born. Heinrich Himmler founded Lebensborn to help its mostly unmarried mothers, encourage anonymous births at their maternity homes, and facilitate adoption by "racially pure" and "healthy" parents, particularly SS members and their families. The most Aryan mothers received the Cross of Honour of the German Mother. Nazis legalised (and often promoted) abortion for handicapped and non-Germanic children but harshly penalised otherwise.
Lebensborn, founded in 1935 in Germany, expanded into various occupied European Germanic countries during World War II. It included adopting "racially worthy" orphans and caring for children born to Aryan mothers who had dated SS members. Children born to ordinary soldiers and foreign women were initially rejected since there was no proof of 'racial purity' on both sides. During the war, numerous children were stolen from their parents and judged by Aryan standards for Lebensborn homes and German foster families.
At the Nuremberg Trials, Nazi Germany was discovered to have kidnapped children in Ukraine and Poland from 1939 through 1945.
