They may be labeled as outcasts or rebels, but in reality, they're the ones who are brave enough to challenge the status quo and forge their own path. Let's celebrate the black sheep in our lives - the ones who inspire us to think differently, to question the norms, and to embrace our individuality.

A Scotch tape ad from the 1940s.⁣ ⁣ The ad copy highlights one of its uses: “Fix fringe to forehead with 'SCOTCH' Tape and cut across top of tape. Fringe cuts straight, hair trimmings stick to tape—won’t fall in eyes. 'SCOTCH' Brand Cellulose Tape is your handiest household helper". ⁣ ⁣ Scotch tape was invented by a 23-year-old research assistant named Richard Drew who was attempting to make adhesive tape for auto painters. He made the mistake of not adding enough adhesive. When Drew presented it to one of the car painters, he supposedly said, "Why so Scotch with the adhesive?" (In the 1920s, the word scotch was used to mean "cheap"). The name stuck and a brand was born.⁣ ⁣ Scotch tape was released during the Great Depression and it was an instant hit amongst a populace that wanted to make easy and inexpensive repairs around the house. In the 1940s, the New York Times cited Scotch tape as the perfect tool for "splinting pigeon wings, prep

This is Rube Waddell, an American baseball player (from the early 1900s) whose life story bewilders me to no end.  In the middle of a game, Waddell would disappear to chase fire trucks. He was easily distracted, so opposing fans would bring puppies to the game which would have Waddell running over to play with them. American sportswriter and baseball historian Lee Allen wrote that in 1903, Waddell was "sleeping in a firehouse at Camden, New Jersey, and ended it tending bar in a saloon in Wheeling, West Virginia. In between those events, he won 22 games for the Philadelphia Athletics, [...] toured the nation in a melodrama called The Stain of Guilt, courted, married, and became separated from May Wynne Skinner of Lynn, Massachusetts, saved a woman from drowning, accidentally shot a friend through the hand, and was bitten by a lion." It should be noted that Waddell was incapable of memorizing his lines for his part in The Stain of Guilt, so he was allowed to improvise his line

Many people have a misconception that Africa has no history, however, studies into history and archeological records has proven that Africa has more rich and great history than what the old historians tried to make us believe.  1. The human race is of African origin. The oldest known skeletal remains of anatomically modern humans (or homo sapiens) were excavated at sites in East Africa. Human remains were discovered at Omo in Ethiopia that were dated at 195,000 years old, the oldest known in the world. 2. Skeletons of pre-humans have been found in Africa that date back between 4 and 5 million years. The oldest known ancestral type of humanity is thought to have been the australopithecus ramidus, who lived at least 4.4 million years ago. 3. Africans were the first to organise fishing expeditions 90,000 years ago. At Katanda, a region in northeastern Zaïre (now Congo), was recovered a finely wrought series of harpoon points, all elaborately polished and barbed. Also uncovered was a tool,

Fat men’s clubs were popular in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th century.  In order to become a member, you had to weigh over 200 lbs (91 kg). During this time, male obesity was often seen in a positive light and a sign of economic success. Obese men were also viewed as good-natured and generous.  These clubs also had their own mantras, ranging from "We're fat and we're making the most of it!" to "I've got to be good-natured; I can't fight and I can't run.” Members typically paid a fee of $1 a year and met twice a year. Members would participate in eating competitions and shower the heaviest members with prizes. These meetups also doubled as networking events.  In 1904, The Boston Globe reported on one of their meetings: "This village is full of bulbous and overhanging abdomens and double chins tonight, for the New England Fat Men's Club is in session at Hale's Tavern. The natives, who are mostly bony and angular, h

Hachikō belonged to Professor Eizaburo Ueno who lived in Shibuya and taught at Tokyo Imperial University during the early 1920s. Every day, Ueno would walk to Shibuya Station with Hachikō and take the train to work. Once he was done for the day, he would take the train back and return to the station at precisely 3 PM. Hachikō would always be there waiting patiently to accompany the professor home. One day, Ueno suffered a stroke and never arrived at the station. Hachikō went to the station every day for 9 years until his death in 1935.

Irish family eating a meal of potatoes and milk, 1917.  The "Irish" potato is not originally from Ireland, but from South America (specifically Peru and Bolivia) where the Indigenous people have been growing it for thousands of years. After the Spanish conquistadors invaded the region during the 16th century, they brought the potato back to Europe where it eventually became a popular food crop by the 19th century. During the 1840s, a potato blight began to infect all the potatoes throughout Europe. The Irish were hit particularly hard because they almost solely subsisted on potatoes. They were mostly tenant farmers who were allocated a small plot of land in return for working on the lands of their landlords. Potatoes were easy to grow in a small area and were cheap, filling, and less prone to spoilage, so it became the perfect food source for the poor.  At the height of the Irish famine in 1847, the British landowners continued the exportation of food from Ireland to England

The Diabetic Children

Image
The Diabetic Children  In 1922, a group of scientists went to the Toronto General hospital where diabetic children were kept in wards, often 50 or more at a time. Most of them were comatose and dying from diabetic keto-acidosis. Others were being treated by being placed on an extremely strict diet, which inevitably led to starvation.  These children were essentially in their death beds, awaiting what was at that time, certain death. The scientists moved swiftly and proceeded to inject the children with a new purified extract of insulin. As they began to inject the last comatose child, the first one to be injected began to wake up. Then one by one, all the children awoke from their diabetic comas. A room that was full of death and gloom, suddenly became a place of joy and hope. In the early 1920s, Frederick Banting and Charles Best discovered insulin under John Macleod at the University of Toronto. With the help of James Collip, insulin was purified, making it available to successfully

Ofarnyi Kwegya, the statue of the giant who came from ancient Egypt to Ghana, is known as "The Great Fisherman." Built in Moree In the middle of the country Ofarnyi Kwegya was one of the people who came with Asebu Amanfi from Ancient Egypt to what is now Asebu Town in the Central Region of Ghana.  Oral traditional history says that Asebu Amanfi and Ofarnyi Kwegya were both very tall people.  Asebu Amanfi moved inland when he got there and started the town of Asebu. Ofarnyi Kwegya was a great fisherman who moved to the coast because there were so many Stingrays (Mrol) in the rivers. This is where the name Mrol or Moree came from. Ofarnyi Kwegya, who has died, was the best fisherman who ever lived in Ghana. Since he died, no fisherman has been able to match what he did. Ofarnyi Kwegya was a great fisherman who could catch a lot of fish because he was so big. His fishing took him and his men to many places along the coast of what is now the Central Region. Because he fished, he

The sheep, lion and the tortoise

Image
A sheep was passing and saw a lion crying inside a cage trapped, the lion begged the sheep to rescue him with a promise not to kill and eat it, but the sheep refused.. After much persuasion and for the sheep's gullibility, it opened the cage for the lion. Now the lion was very hungry having stayed in the cage for days without food.. It quickly pounced on the sheep and was about to kill and eat it, but the sheep reminded him of his promise. They were still there arguing when other animals came passing and they sought to know what happened.. Both the lion and the sheep narrated their own side of the story, but because of fear and in trying to gain Favour in the sight of the lion, all the animals took side with the lion except the Tortoise who claimed not to understand the whole scenario. Now the Tortoise asked the lion to show them where exactly he was before the sheep rescued him, The lion pointed at the cage.. Tortoise asked again, "were you inside or outside when the sheep ar

With the permission of the Chilean government in 1889, eleven Selk’nam natives including an 8-year-old were taken to Europe to be exhibited in Human Zoos. The Patagonian Indians were a rarity. Between 1878 and 1900, three groups of natives belonging to indigenous groups of Tehuelche, Selknam, and Kawésqar were shipped to Europe to be exposed in Human Zoos. They were photographed, measured, weighed, and were expected to perform every day. Sometimes 6 to 8 times a day. The Selknams did not receive the best care. Therefore, many of them did not make it back. Some did not even make it to Europe.

A Foolhardy Stork Ducks Into A Crocodile’s Mouth To Retrieve Its Meal

A Foolhardy Stork Ducks Into A Crocodile’s Mouth To Retrieve Its Meal The yellow-billed bird came across a tigerfish’s head floating in the water when it was out fishing in TᎀɎᎢᎀɎɪᎀ’s Selous Game Reserve. It gathered up the food in its beak and a four-meter-long crocodile appeared in the shallows. The stork’s head appeared to be ᎅᎀɎɢᎇʀᎏ᎜sly ᎄʟᎏsᮇ to the beast’s jaws for a brief moment, as though it had become entangled in the action. Fortunately, the crocodile didn’t grab the bird, leaving it to carry on fishing. The stunning collection of images was taken by Mark Sheridan Johnson while he was working as a safari guide. The 35-year-old claimed that he saw the stork was playing with soᎍᎇ᎛ʜing in the water, which turned out to be the head of a tigerfish. The crocodile rushed in fast to take the stork’s dinner as the bird attracted his attention while playing with the fish head. The stork decided to continue fishing with the crocodile after realizing that the struggle was finished onc

Why would civilized people show other people in zoos?

Image
Why would civilized people show other people in zoos? From a sociological point of view, it’s understandable: a much more technologically advanced civilization lacking the modern-day sensibilities and political correctness finds a primitive civilization living in a neolithic fashion so they immediately assume they’re lower than them. It happened countless times in history. In the Jiu Tang Shu (The History of the Tang Dinasty) you can find examples of black slaves brought to China by Arab merchants and slave traders who were then acquired by rich Chinese people and used by the nobility of Guangzhou as amusement (for example they were put as doorkeepers during parties to scare and impress the arriving guests). A few centuries after that the Emperor of China sent emissaries to Malindi (East Africa) to bring him exotic animals, they brought him a giraffe (which marveled the Emperor to no end, he called it a godly beast and ordered his best artist to honor the giraffe with a painting. The first African-American graduate of New Mexico State University.

Do you know the name Clara Belle Drisdale Williams [1885-1993], the first African-American graduate of New Mexico State University.  Many of her professors would not allow her inside the classroom, she had to take notes from the hallway; she was also not allowed to walk with her class to get her diploma. She married Jasper Williams in 1917; their three sons became physicians. She became a great teacher of black students by day, and by night she taught their parents, former slaves, home economics.  In 1961, New Mexico State University named a street on its campus after Williams; in 2005 the building of the English department was renamed Clara Belle Williams Hall. In 1980 Williams was awarded an honorary doctorate of laws degree by NMSU, which also apologized for the treatment she was subjected to as a student. She died at 108 years old.

African Ancient schools

African Ancient schools Famous well known Greeks (Europeans) whom we study their history and writings, studied at the feet of Ancient Egyptian (Kemet) scholars at the Temple of Waset founded 1405B.C (15BC Cent) & also in Timbuktu Temple founded in 1201BC (13BC Cent) in now Mali. Phil Plato was a student at Waset Temple for 11yrs. Also, Aristotle was a student there for 11-13 years. Socrates spent at least 15 years at the same temple; likewise, Euclid studied for 10-11 years at the same temple. Pythagoras spent 22 years there. Ancient Scholars in Egypt began keeping records as far back as 4000 to 3000 BC same with the people of now sub-saharan Africa. Several Europeans also studied in Timbuktu Temple where most researches were carried out. Hippocrates studied in Waset for 20 years, plus a host of other little known Greeks who matriculated at Waset, among whom are Diodorus, Solon, Thales, Archimedes, and Euripides. With other scholars from Abyssinian (now Ethiopia), Nubia (Sudan) an
