Ado-Ekiti—A five-year-old girl (names withheld) whose aunty inserted a hot knife into her pr!vate parts for eating out of her daughter’s food, is said to be finding it difficult to walk or sit due to severe pains.
Mrs. Esther Abgundu, a native of Gwer
Local Government Area of Benue State, according to a petition by the
Justice Development and Peace Commission, JDPC, in the Catholic Diocese
of Ekiti, had earlier inserted pepper in the girl’s private parts after
allegedly beating her up.

In the petition to the National
Human Rights Commission, NHRC, by JDPC Director, Reverend Father
Emmanuel Akingbade, “the five-year-old is a niece to Mrs Abgundu and
they reside together at Ijelu-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of
Ekiti State.
“The victim was babysitting Mrs
Abgundu’s baby and in the course of feeding the baby, she took a spoon
of the baby’s food and ate.
“This annoyed the respondent so
much that she inserted pepper in her private parts. The respondent
further put a knife in the fire and inserted the hot knife in the
victim’s private parts, and equally impressed the hot knife on the outer
part of her private parts.
“Still not satisfied, she was beaten mercilessly and urged not to cry aloud.”
JDPI said when it received the
report of the incident, its officials visited the community as well as
the traditional ruler, Oba Isaac Adetoyinbo Ajayi.
His words: “The Elejelu of
Ijelu-Ekiti confirmed the report and further informed us that he has
notified the Divisional Police Officer of Ilupeju-Ekiti of the incident
and the latter sent officers to arrest the respondent a day after the
incident was reported at the palace.”
Father Akingbade added that the
monarch “confirmed also that the victim was, on the night of the
incident, rushed to Ijelu-Ekiti Health Centre.”
According to the JDPI Director, “we
visited the health centre for verification and questioning,” and
further explained that the officials of the centre, as well as relatives
of the victim, confirmed the incident.”
He lamented that the five-year-old
had been a victim of “frequent inhuman and degrading treatments,” adding
“we took a closer look at the victim to confirm the incident of
maltreatment, child abuse and molestation.”
JDPI boss also alleged that Mrs Abgundu “was released barely few hours
after her arrest and boastfully roams the streets of Ijelu-Ekiti as if
nothing happened, while the victim is neither able to walk nor sit well
and still groans in much pains and discomfort.
