Mystery- The Haunted Town Of St. Nazianz, WI St. Nazians was founded by a priest who wholeheartedly believed to helped cursed the town. Over the years, the town has been hit with natural disasters and unexplained phenomena. Father Ambrose Oschwald was fled to Wisconsin in 1854 from religious persecution. Condemn the prisoner to sit in a cell and wait for death.

An execution chamber in Norway

He will die eventually, I guarantee it. He will sit enclosed by those four walls and know this is it, those walls will lock him in and he will eventually succumb to disease or old age. He knows full well there is nothing else he could ever achieve in his life and these four walls are the pennance for his crime. Death is inevitable, but there won’t even be an axe or a firing squad to shorten his suffering oh no, he will pay the penalty in full and then die an old man, having achieved nothing of note for years and decades on end.

Why would anyone in their right mind want a different way to properly punish a criminal anyway? Anything less is just undeserved mercy to the monster that showed none.

A further upside is that in case a mistake is found later on and the condemned was actually innocent, some of the penalty can still be reversed right until he actually does die. This is a bit harder to do after you’ve burned someone at the stake or whatever.
