Over the years, the town has been hit with natural disasters and unexplained phenomena. Father Ambrose Oschwald was fled to Wisconsin in 1854 from religious persecution. The Roman Catholic Church had suspended him from his duties due to “mystical, prophetic, and heretical works.” Already, the scary history of the town is starting to make sense! Oddly enough, the congregation followed him. Once they got to Wisconsin, a “divine white heifer” lead them to the site of his new home which would become St. Nazianz. The community actually thrived. Consisting of young women aged just 17 to 26, these Soviet pilots overcame extraordinary misogyny to fly some 30,000 deadly missions.

And when they flew overhead with their engines shut off in order to remain stealth, their faint yet unmistakable sound of their approach signaled inevitable destruction.

While they may have been a talented group of flyers, they were did not make the Nazis live in terror. There just weren’t enough of them.
There was little misogyny in the Soviet army. They frequently used women on dangerous missions. In fact, the Soviets put a woman in space 20 years before the USA did.
