Mystery- The Haunted Town Of St. Nazianz, WI St. Nazians was founded by a priest who wholeheartedly believed to helped cursed the town. Over the years, the town has been hit with natural disasters and unexplained phenomena. Father Ambrose Oschwald was fled to Wisconsin in 1854 from religious persecution. The Roman Catholic Church had suspended him from his duties due to “mystical, prophetic, and heretical works.” Already, the scary history of the town is starting to make sense! Oddly enough, the congregation followed him. Once they got to Wisconsin, a “divine white heifer” lead them to the site of his new home which would become St. Nazianz. The community actually thrived. What unusual situations can be found in coffins?

It sometimes happens that dead bodies are exhumed.

For forensic reasons or simply because they are reburied.

And there it happens in rare cases that the cemetery employee makes gruesome finds. Also archeologists can come up with stories about creepy surprises.

Here it was the coffin of a young woman. She had been buried in 1871. Her short life had lasted only 21 years. Through the viewing window in the upper part of the coffin, the workers recognized the mummified face and the still mostly intact remains of the clothing. When they opened the coffin, they made a gruesome discovery: with them in the coffin were the remains of a baby.

The mother had given birth to her child in the coffin, so to speak.

However, one must not imagine that both were alive.

No, the dead woman was pregnant. After death, rigor mortis first occurs, with muscle contractions of the uterus also occurring.

After that, decomposition typically does not begin in the coffin due to the lack of oxygen, but a rot. The produces gases that cause the body to swell.

These gases sometimes produce so much pressure that the baby is forced through the birth canal.

This can happen within 48 to 72 hours after the mother dies.

This is actually called a coffin birth.

Really just the scariest thing you can imagine.
