Mystery- The Haunted Town Of St. Nazianz, WI St. Nazians was founded by a priest who wholeheartedly believed to helped cursed the town. Over the years, the town has been hit with natural disasters and unexplained phenomena. Father Ambrose Oschwald was fled to Wisconsin in 1854 from religious persecution. The Roman Catholic Church had suspended him from his duties due to “mystical, prophetic, and heretical works.” Already, the scary history of the town is starting to make sense! Oddly enough, the congregation followed him. Once they got to Wisconsin, a “divine white heifer” lead them to the site of his new home which would become St. Nazianz. The community actually thrived. On this day 2nd November 1942. Over 600,000 Azerbaijanis were conscripted to the Red army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Out of them, about 300,000 Azerbaijani troops were killed.

Azerbaijan played an important part in Operation Barbarossa and was essential to the Soviet war effort.

From the start of Operation Barbarossa, when German troops invaded the USSR in June 1941, until the end of the war, Azerbaijan produced 75 million tonnes of crude oil, 80% of the union’s petrol, 90% of its naphtha and 96% of its lubricants.


Over 600,000 Azerbaijanis were conscripted to the Red army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.

Out of them, about 300,000 Azerbaijani troops were killed. Some 15,000 medical workers were deployed on the Eastern Front, along with 3,750 operators of motorized vehicles.

Divisions from Azerbaijan marched from the Caucasus to Berlin.

Up to 40,000 individuals ‘volunteered’ for service in the German Army during World War 2.

Many of these individuals were recruited from German POW camp's, whilst others joined up hoping to realise the dream of independence from the Soviets.

Under the SS-Sturmbrigade Dirlewanger, an infamous Waffen SS penal unit led by SS-Oberführer Oskar Dirlewanger, participated in the systematic killing of between 40,000 and 50,000 Polish civilians in Warsaw during the Wola massacre.

Two hours before midnight on 5 August, the Azerbaijani soldiers and the Bergmann Battalion attacked St Lazarus hospital, executed hundreds of patients, doctors, and nurses, before burning it down.

British historian Martin Windrow described Dirlewanger's unit, which included the Azerbaijani legion, as a "terrifying rabble" of "cut-throats, [foreign] renegades, sadistic morons, and cashiered rejects from other units".
