Mystery- The Haunted Town Of St. Nazianz, WI St. Nazians was founded by a priest who wholeheartedly believed to helped cursed the town. Over the years, the town has been hit with natural disasters and unexplained phenomena. Father Ambrose Oschwald was fled to Wisconsin in 1854 from religious persecution. The Roman Catholic Church had suspended him from his duties due to “mystical, prophetic, and heretical works.” Already, the scary history of the town is starting to make sense! Oddly enough, the congregation followed him. Once they got to Wisconsin, a “divine white heifer” lead them to the site of his new home which would become St. Nazianz. The community actually thrived. The Aztec Empire. The actions of that town even terrified the Spanish who would later conquer them. One of the reasons why the conquest of Mexico was so easy and quick is because the local tribes that had been conquered by
Aztecs rebelled against their masters because they preferred to submit to Spanish control.

The Aztecs sacrificed enormous numbers of men, women, and children. They ripped out their hearts while they were still alive. In spring, they sacrificed their children to the god Tlaloc to ask him for rain so that their crops would grow. It was believed that if the child cried on the way to the sacrifice, the rain was guaranteed for the rest of the year, so they riddled them with thorns to ensure a good omen. After the death of those sacrificed (80,000 men were killed in a single ceremony), the priests and nobles ate their mutilated bodies.

In the Aztec festival of Tlacaxipehualiztli nobles were asked to offer human sacrifices. They peeled the skin off the victims and put it on them as a coat. In another festival, a woman was dressed as an Aztec Goddess and four men were burned alive in front of her. Later, they sacrificed her by tearing her heart out and eating her body.

The Aztecs conquered other neighboring tribes and celebrated by sacrificing all the enemy warriors and eating their brains. Then, they demanded more victims from their vassals to be sacrificed. It is estimated that the Aztecs sacrificed about 80,000 people each year.

The Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, there was a huge construction made of human skulls in front of its great temple. The Spanish counted more than 132,000 skulls.

Once the Aztecs migrated south from Durango and made contact with the rest of Mesoamerica, they found sanctuary under the protection of the king of Culhuacán and arranged the wedding between their leader and the king's daughter. The Aztec leader sacrificed her daughter and put her skin over her as a coat. And then he met the King still wearing the skin of his slain daughter.

The Aztecs were a race of murderous cannibals. They dominated Mesoamerica through terror and bloodshed. For all these atrocities they deserved to be conquered by the Spanish.
