Woman Whose Five Children Were Set Ablaze By Her Husband Narrates How The Incident Happened

“Around 3am, my eldest child screamed that, ‘mummy fire is burning me’. I stood up and went to their room. I saw them on fire and one of them told me their father stood by the door and poured something on them” –she narrated.

Speaking on the casualty, she said one of her children got burnt in the fire while another one died on their way to the hospital. She said only three survived. She added that the man spared their twins while he was committing the act.

“One of them got burnt, another one died while we were coming. Now, it is remaining just three. The twins have already been taken to crèche. The twins are hale and healthy" –she narrated.

She said she is 35-years-old and the man is about 65-years-old. She said they have been together for over 5 years and they have a set of twins together. According to her, the man was trying to run away with the twins after setting her five children on fire but he was nabbed by the police.

The mother of the five children has disclosed, in an exclusive interview with BBC News Yoruba, that she lost two of her children to the incident. Speaking on a hospital bed, the woman, Esther Ojo disclosed that the man who committed the act was her husband but not the biological father of the kids.

While everyone was going to bed, she said her husband refused to join them, insisting that he doesn’t feel like sleeping. She said after all efforts to persuade him failed, she left him and went to bed.
