Mystery- The Haunted Town Of St. Nazianz, WI St. Nazians was founded by a priest who wholeheartedly believed to helped cursed the town. Over the years, the town has been hit with natural disasters and unexplained phenomena. Father Ambrose Oschwald was fled to Wisconsin in 1854 from religious persecution. The Roman Catholic Church had suspended him from his duties due to “mystical, prophetic, and heretical works.” Already, the scary history of the town is starting to make sense! Oddly enough, the congregation followed him. Once they got to Wisconsin, a “divine white heifer” lead them to the site of his new home which would become St. Nazianz. The community actually thrived. The woman was found guilty of adultery and repeatedly flogged in front of a large crowd, as is custom under Sharia law on the deeply conservative island of Sumatra

Horrifying photos show a sobbing Indonesian woman being frogmarched by police officers onto a platform where she was then caned in public for adultery.

The woman had been found guilty of having sex outside marriage, which is punishable by public beating under Sharia law.

She was one of a group of eight people who had been sentenced to the brutal punishment in Banda Aceh, Sumatra Island.

Two female officers held her by each arm and dragged her to a platform where she was made to kneel in front of a crowd of people, many of whom were filming on their phones.

A masked officer known as an "algojo" then delivered a series of blows with a rattan cane.

At one point she raised her hand to pause the caning as the pain becomes too much for her. One of the officers stepped forward to offer her some water before the beating continued.

Each victim received 25 to 45 lashes for their crimes.

Aceh is the only province in Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country, that imposes Sharia law.

Public flogging is a common punishment in the region and is used for a variety of offences such as gambling, drinking alcohol, having gay sex, engaging in sex before marriage or engaging in an extramarital relationship.

It's intended as a deterrent for both the offender and the spectators in the audience.

"The pain of being flogged is not that bad, the embarrassment is worse," head of the local public order agency Marwen has said.

Despite protests from human rights groups that say public caning is inhuman, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo calling for the practice to end, it still has widespread support in Aceh.

In March last year, five unmarried couples were whipped in public after they'd already served time in prison for offences such as cuddling, holding hands and having sex.
